What fees does the Association charge?
See the Fees page for the current fee amount. There are no additional charges for pool use. Special assessments may be levied from time to time to fund capital improvement projects, and there is a charge for certain social events, such as our annual Holiday Luncheon.
My home is covered by the Association’s master insurance policy… RIGHT??
No, NO, NO!!! YOU are responsible for having homeowners’ insurance.
What’s the policy on pets?
See the Animals and Pets section of the Community Policies document. We love our pets, and we love your pets. But you may not allow your dog to run free, and you MUST clean up after it!
Where can I park? What about guests?
Each residence is allocated two parking spaces near the house. In some culs-de-sac, it’s obvious which spaces go with which homes, but in others it isn’t. Talk to your neighbors to be sure you know the conventions in your cul-de-sac.
Visitor spaces are for the use of anyone visiting the cul-de-sac – they’re not assigned to specific homes. If you’re planning a gathering, reach out to your neighbors to ask if your guests can use their unused spaces. There are also extra visitor spaces near the pool, both on Sussex Square Drive and on Coat Bridge Lane.
When does the trash get collected?
As of January 2024, Zan’s Refuse Service picks up our trash on Fridays, any time from 6:00am to mid-afternoon. They come to your house and take it from your trash enclosure – you don’t need to bring it to the street.
Regrettably, we don’t have recycling collection at Sussex Square. There are two recycling centers, each about three miles from here:
- Fire Station 13, 12491 Church Rd.
- Fire Station 9, 9401 Quioccasin Rd. This one is actually on Shane Road, a right turn just beyond the fire station.
When does the pool open? Can I bring my grandchildren?
The pool is open from Memorial Day through September, and we have community social events to celebrate the start and end of summer. You’re welcome to bring guests to the pool with you. We ask that you sign in your guests in the book in the pool house, and you must be there at the pool with them while they’re there.
Do I have to cut my grass?
Nope! During the warm weather, you’ll see the landscaping crew in the neighborhood each week, usually on Tuesdays. See the Grounds and Landscaping section in the Community Policies, under Property Maintenance.
Can I change the color of my house?
The Association is responsible for exterior maintenance, including painting and roofing. Each home gets a fresh coat of paint approximately every eight years. When it’s your turn, you’ll be able to choose your color from the current palette.
Well, what maintenance is covered by the Association, and what am I responsible for?
See the Services page.
What if I want to replace my windows, or add a portico, or a screened porch, or…?
We’re excited that you want to improve your home! All exterior modifications must go through the Architectural Review process. Just contact our Architectural Review Chair as you’re planning your changes, and they will help you get your project through the approval process.
